Oasi Naturale San Gherardo
The Oasis is accessed through periodic guided tours suitable for young and old, opportunity to practice birdwatching, make nature walks and learn more about the geological and morphological aspects of the territory.
The Oasis has a House of Nature: a center for documentation and scientific dissemination equipped with educational spaces and reception services for groups and schools, where to deepen the study of native species and natural environments of wetlands.
NEW: the Oasis San Gherardo will be open every Sunday from 10 to 18. Opening of the House of Nature, with reception and information service on the Oasis and its events and the Way of the Gods, addressed to hikers who go trekking and occasional visitors.
Things to see in the Oasis
- the geological and morphological aspects (the clay and the basin of San Gherardo, the Pliocene sandstone of the Salto dei Rossi, the terrace of the Reno river).
- the forest with willow and poplar trees and the marshy vegetation.
- the arid meadows and specialized vegetation of the creek.
- the vegetation of the sandstone walls.
- the woods of hornbeam and oaks.
- the Apennine howl and many other amphibians.
- the wall and field lizards, the luscengola and several other reptiles.
- Wetland birds (ducks, woodlands, herons, grebes, cormorants,...).
- the peregrine falcon that nests in the walls of the red birds and other raptors.
- The hoopoe and other shrubbery and warm grassland birds.
- the porcupine and many ungulates (roe deer, fallow deer and wild boar).
- the fox and the wolf.
