Acquedotto Romano
Not far from the Oasis, in the area of rio Conco, one of the side tunnels of the Roman underground aqueduct opens, a civil engineering work carried out in the Augustan age (I sec. BC) to ensure water supply to the city of Bologna, by the water of the Setta river (the waters of the Aposa were considered insufficient and those of the Rhine too calcareous). The Roman hydraulic engineers thus designed a tunnel dug in the hills of rock of sandstone and clay, almost 19 km long, whose entrance is located along the shore of the Sect. It remained in operation until the fourth century AD; after fifteen centuries of inactivity was restored in 1883: more than 2000 years after its construction, the Roman Aqueduct is still in operation and continues to bring water to the houses of the people of Bologna.
The guided speleo-archaeological tours to the Roman Aqueduct start with a short walk towards the access at Rio Conco, they go through the tunnel under the waterfall and then explore a short section of the underground aqueduct, returning to the Oasis under the Red Leap and, from here, to the House of Nature. The visits are of low difficulty, but not suitable for children under one metre in height or very corpulent people, unable to pass the opening (placed at 90 cm high and 70x45 cm wide).
Inside the aqueduct, a certain amount of water always flows and, especially in the first section, there is continuous dripping from the walls. You must therefore absolutely bring from home: rubber boots to the knee, waterproof k-way/ mantellina and clothing suitable and sturdy to get dirty.
The oasis will provide all participants with a protective helmet, equipped with a LED headlamp.
