Linea Gotica
From October 1943, the German troops deployed in the peninsula prepared to face the Anglo-American army, opposing its access to the Po Valley by creating a defensive line along the Apennine ridge: the Gothic Line.
The positions, trenches and shelters used by the Germans along the route have now become an equipped path that, in the territory of Sasso Marconi, Starting from the Parco dei Prati di Mugnano, crossing places steeped in history such as Monte Mario and Monte Sole, which allow us to imagine the conditions in which the troops lived through the last months of the war.
The municipal territory is rich in evidence of war and large posters illustrate local events and the entire campaign of Italy.
La Linea Gotica a Sasso Marconi: itinerary
The massif of Mount Adone, from October 1944 to April 1945, represented for the Germans the extreme defensive line at the gates of Bologna. Workers enlisted in the "Todt" organization built shelters, trenches and storage. It was created a real "natural bastion" that degraded from 654 m of Mount Adone to 466 m of Monte Mario facing the convergence of the valleys of the Sect and the Rhine.
The route has several access points and takes about 4 hours. From Badolo to Monte Adone, it coincides with the Via degli Dei, an ancient Roman military road that connected Bologna to Fiesole.
Areas concerned by the Gothic Line project
• Monte Mario: route of the Gothic Line project (CAI 118 and 110 trails: journey time from 2 to 4 hours).
Go up to Villa Quiete and follow the signs of the path CAI 118, when you reach the crossroads take the path CAI 110 uphill to the top of Monte Mario; from here go down to a junction from which you continue on the right. Alternatively, from the parking lot of the public park of the Prati di Mugnano take the paths CAI 118 or CAI 122.
• Monte Alto: Progetto Linea Gotica itinerary (journey time 1 hours and 30 minutes)
By car from Sasso Marconi follow the provincial road Val di Setta until you take the left fork for Badolo and Battedizzo, continue for about 6 km passing the right turn to Brento, until the slope, after about 1 km. Take the right Via delle Valli and park in the open space at 50 m. Back on the asphalt, make a few steps back towards Badolo, follow a cavedagna (closed by a chain) and follow the signs "Progetto Lineo Gotica".
• Monte Adone: itinerary Progetto Linea Gotica (journey time from 3 to 4 hours)
By car from Sasso Marconi, take the provincial road Val di Setta until you take the left fork for Badolo and Battedizzo, continue for about 6 km taking the right turn for Brento. Continue on the main road on asphalt until you take the fork for Brento on the left. In Brento pass the restaurant and turn right towards the multi-purpose center.
